Public works contractors in Angola unable to meet obligations

13 February 2012

Malanje, Angola, 13 Feb – Various contractors chosen to build road infrastructures have over time shown that they are unable to develop the projects, Angola’s Minister for Urbanism and Construction has stated.

During a Saturday visit to the project to rebuild more than 200 km of road linking Mucari/Tala Mugongo, Mucari/Sautar, Tala Mungongo/Kambundi-Katembo, Fernando da Fonseca said that some contractors do not have the capacity for the large-scale projects in which they are involved.

“We are inspecting and verifying in detail that capacity with respect to existing project deadlines,” Fonseca said, adding that necessary measures would be taken in the next few days, namely the replacement with other contractors better able to complete the programme.

He specified that as his ministry’s duty is to defend the state, “we will take all possible administrative steps to ensure that the plan is fulfilled.” (macauhub)
