US regulator approves acquisition of Energias de Portugal by China Three Gorges Corp

Washington, United States, 24 Feb – The acquisition of 21.35 percent of the Portuguese State’s stake in EDP – Energias de Portugal by China Three Gorges Corp was approved by the United States Federal Energy Regulating Commission, the commission said in Washington.

Cited by Portuguese news agency Lusa the document from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said that the transaction was in lined with public interest and was authorised subject to some terms and conditions, and that changes to the status of EDP or CTG or the facilities owned by it should once again be submitted to the regulator.

In order for the sale of the State’s 21.35 percent stake in EDP to Three Gorges Corp to go ahead the regulatory authorities of the countries in which EDP is present, namely the United States and Brazil, must approve the deal. (macauhub)
