Caxito, Angola, 27 Feb – Angola may start exporting bananas within the next two years based on growth indicators of agricultural production, particularly for that product, the country’s Economy minister, Abraão Gourgel said Saturday in Caxito.
At the end of a visit to the first National Banana Fair, held from 24 to 26 February in Caxito, the minister said that domestic demand for bananas had already been met and now initiatives had emerged to set up a banana processing industry in order to make use of surpluses.
Cited by Angolan news agency Angop, Gourgel also said that conditions had been created to increase quality, which would be achieved by improving the planting system and with better technical assistance.
The business fair was attended by exhibitors from the provinces of KLwanza Norte, Bengo, Benguela, Zaire, Uíge, Kwanza Sul, Malanje and Luanda and also 42 exhibitors of agricultural machinery. (macauhub)
