Portuguese pharmaceutical group Bluepharma has set up a company in Mozambique to offer pharmaceutical and hospital services, consulting and promotion, introduction and registration of medication on the market, import, export, sales and manufacturing of medication and other health products.

Bluepharma Moçambique, located in Maputo, is 100 percent-owned by the Bluepharma Group which is based in Coimbra, Portugal.

“The launch of Bluepharma Moçambique is the recognition of the African market as being strategic for expansion of the brand and the sale of its products, and it is likely that this will be just the first step towards consolidation of Bluepharma’s international positioning,” the company said in a statement.

Bluepharma started operating in February 2001, following the acquisition of a manufacturing unit from Bayer, located in São Martinho do Bispo, Coimbra and produces drugs for other companies, manufactures and sells its own generic medication, and provides research, development and registration services for new drugs.
