The results of the first flow test at the Barquentine-2 well, in the sea off Mozambique, were positive and the gas flowed at a rate of 90 million to 100 million cubic feet per day, US group Anadarko Petroleum Corporation said Monday in Houston.

“The test at Barquentine-2 exhibited exceptional flow characteristics, confirmed the deliverability of this reservoir,” said Bob Daniels, vice president of the group responsible for worldwide exploration.

The well is located in depths of approximately 1,650 metres in Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin in northern Mozambique, on the border with Tanzania.

Anadarko is the operator of Area 1, which covers 10,521 square kilometres, and has a 36.5 percent stake, with the remainder in the hands of Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1 (20 percent), BPRL Ventures Mozambique (10 percent), Videocon Mozambique Rovuma 1 (10 percent) and Cove Energy Mozambique Rovuma Offshore, Ltd. (8.5 percent) and state Mozambican company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) with 15 percent. (macauhub)
