In 2013 Angola may launch a new international tender to grant concessions on oil prospecting, Sebastião Gaspar Martins, a director of Angolan national oil company Sonangol, said Tuesday in Kuwait.
Martins said however, that the areas to be attributed had yet to be selected and that some may be onshore and others offshore.
Angola, which is Africa’s second-largest oil producer after Nigeria, in 2011 granted BP and Statoil ASA, amongst other companies, the right to prospect for oil and natural gas in Angola’s pre-salt layer located in deep water.
Martins also said that Angola was gradually increasing its oil production, which was expected to rise from a current level of 1.6 million barrels per day to 2 million barrels in 2014. (macahub)
