Portuguese company Conduril – Engenharia due to start building bridge in Angola

22 March 2012

Portuguese company Conduril – Engenharia is due to start building a permanent bridge over the Cubango River, in Caila, in the Angolan province of Kuando Kubango, Angolan news agency Angop reported in Luanda.

The bridge, built in concrete, will be 250 metres long and 11 metres wide and will be built at the same spot as the bridge that was destroyed in 1976 during Angola’s civil war.

Also according to the agency, Conduril – Engenharia is currently organising material and equipment and preparatory work is due to begin in the next few days, such as demolition of the remains of the old bridge and geo-technical surveys.

Until the new concrete bridge is opened, traffic between the city of Menongue and communities in the municipal areas of Cuangar and Calai will travel on a floating bridge set up over the Cubango River. (macauhub)
