The experimental train on the Benguela Railroad (CFB) arrived in the city of Cuito, in Angola’s Bié province, last Saturday, carrying officials from the central and provincial governments, Angolan news agency Angop reported.
Angola’s Transport Minister, Augusto da Silva Tomás, who had travelled on the train from the city of Huambo, 202 kilometres away from Cuito, said that the railway line in that part of the country, which was at a standstill for 24 years, was ready to be used.
Tomás also said that despite there only being one experimental train, it linked the coast and centre of the country and, later, would link to Moxico province and neighbouring countries to the east.
Without naming a date, Tomás said that after Bié province, the train would soon arrive in the city of Luena, in Moxico province, and that work to rebuild the railway was currently underway. (macauhub)
