The tests on the new domestic terminal of Maputo International Airport will begin in August of this year and take two months to complete with final delivery of the project in October, the director of the project to refurbish the airport said Thursday in Maputo.
According to daily newspaper Notícias, Acácio Tuendue said that the tests were intended to identify and correct any possible problems at the terminal as it is used by operators and passengers.
Tuendue said that the domestic terminal would have a bigger service capacity than the international terminal because Maputo airport deals with more domestic than international flights. The new terminal will have 14 check in desks, which is one more than at the international terminal and capacity to handle 300 departing passengers and 225 arriving passengers.
Construction of the domestic terminal, covering an area of 13,200 square metres, is estimated to cost US$32 million, and the contractor for the project is China’s Anhui Foreign Economic Construction (Group) Co. Ltd. (macauhub)
