The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is due on 1 June to start construction of the 74-kilometre road linking the Mozambican capital to the Marracuene district, in Maputo province, a spokesman said.
Speaking to Macauhub in Maputo, the director of the communications office of the Maputo municipal council, Narciso Faduco, said that the work, for which the Chinese company has already gathered together some of the necessary materials and machinery, would take 30 months.
Construction of the ring road is expected to cost US$315 million, and US$300 million will be funded by a credit line from the China Export Import Bank and the remaining US$15 million will be paid for by the State Budget.
Faduco also said that the road would have four lanes and would solve the traffic congestion problem in the municipal areas of Maputo and Matola. (macauhub)
