The Brazilian National Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) plans to open an office in Beijing, China in 2013, the president of the organisation, Senator Kátia Abreu said in Brasilia according to the Brazilian press.

The senator said that the office is intended to help Chinese businesspeople, particularly those that plan to invest in infrastructure projects in Brazil, and to increase the quantity of Brazilian agricultural products being exported to China, based on a similar model to Apex Brasil, the agency for promoting export and investment.

“One of the aims of the CNA office in Beijing is to help Chinese investors interested in infrastructure projects in Brazil, as investments in ports, roads and railway lines will help to place Brazilian products in China at a lower price,” Abreu said.

The meeting was attended by the Brazilian ambassador to China, Clodoaldo Hugueney, as well as Chinese diplomats and businesspeople.

In 2001 China imported US$14.6 billion in agricultural products from Brazil, which accounted for a third of total agricultural exports from the South American country.

The Brazilian National Agriculture and Livestock Confederation represents the Brazilian rural sector. It is headquartered in Brasilia and defends the rights of agri-livestock producers and their economic and social interests. (macauhub)
