The government of Gaza province in Mozambique plans to get funding from the central government and international partners to build an international airport and a port in the city of Xai-Xai, according to Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias.
Citing a document from the provincial government drawn up for a visit by Mozambique’s President to the province, which began Monday, the newspaper said that the airport, which will be built from scratch, will receive small and medium-sized aircraft on an runway built to international standards, and will have all necessary facilities.
In terms of the port the document notes that it will be used to transport agri-livestock products and other resources produced in the province and will also increase the flow of tourists to the area.
The document added that some of the challenges facing the provincial government were construction of some roads and bridges and a dam in the district of Mapai, which will essentially serve to irrigate fields in the district and neighbouring agricultural properties. (macauhub)
