The Dongfeng Motor Corporation, one of the largest automotive groups in China, plans to build a factory in Brazil, the group said in a statement issued Thursday in Sao Paulo and cited by the Brazilian press.
In the statement Dongfeng Motor said that at meetings held last week with the board of the company’s official representative in Brazil, Aurium Trading & Investment, a decision had been made to “speed up the schedule for installing and building a truck factory in Brazil.”
The Dongfeng group also confirmed that Aurium Trading & Investment, a company based in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, was the group’s only representative in Brazil.
The factory will be located in Camaquã in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Set up in 1969, the Dongfeng Motor Corporation, which was previously called the Second Second Automobile Works Co., is one of the top three Chinese automotive companies. In 2010 it posted turnover of US$25 billion and manufactured 2.6 million vehicles. (macauhub)
