Organic vegetable company Moçambique Orgânica has been exporting 15 tons of corn, 7 tons of chilli peppers, 5 tons of green beans, and an unspecified amount of aubergines (eggplant) every month to the European, American and South African markets according to the company’s manager.
José Stefano also said that the company had also exported around 150 tons of a variety of fruits and vegetables as well as other unspecified amounts sold on the domestic market.
Cited by daily newspaper Notícias, the manager of Moçambique Orgânica said that the company planned to invest 33.5 million meticals (US$1.2 million) in preparing an additional production area of 400 hectares.
Stefano also said that the company was waiting for international certification, and gave assurances that production was not affected by “fruit fly,” in order to start exporting other types of vegetable grown in the Inharrime district of Inhambane province. (macauhub)
