Gorongosa Mission Exhibition on display in shopping centre in Lisbon, Portugal

1 June 2012

The “Gorongosa Mission” exhibition is due to be put on display in Lisbon in order to publicise the project to recover the national park located in the Mozambican province of Sofala, the park’s director for communications told Macauhub in Maputo.

Saying it was a philanthropic initiative of the Portuguese group, Vasco Galante said that the exhibition would be on until 10 June in the Colombo shopping centre.

Information panels, films and photographs and a tent where the sounds of Gorongosa National Park can be heard are just some of the features of the exhibition to show how Gorongosa’s ecosystem is being protected and recovered.

The eco-tourism project at the park, costing some US$40 million, has been expanded in stages and includes construction of hotel facilities and camping grounds, as well as activities such as safaris, mountain hikes, bird watching, and wildlife observation.

The project for recuperation of Gorongosa, under the terms of a 20-year concession, is a joint initiative of the Mozambican Government and the Gorongosa Restoration Project Foundation, led by American philanthropist Greg Carr. (macauhub)
