US oil company Anadarko finds more natural gas in Mozambique’s Rovuma basin

US oil company Anadarko Friday announced the discovery of a natural gas reserve in the deep waters of the Rovuma sedimentary basin, in northern Mozambique, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

In May Anadarko also found natural gas in the Golfinho well located in area 1 of the Rovuma Basin.

The new discovery, in the well known as Atum, was made around two months after the start of drilling.

Anadarko and Eni recently announced successive natural gas discoveries in the area.

Oil companies Petronas and Statoil are also due soon to start drilling in the Rovuma region.

The concession holders of Area 1 of the Rovuma basin, the production contract for which was signed in 2006, as well as Anadarko (36.5 percent) also include Mitsui E and P com (20 percent), Empresa Moçambicana de Hidrocarbonetos, EP (15 percent), BPRL Ventures Mozambique BV (10 percent), Videocom Mozambique Rovuma 1 Limited (10 percent) and Cove Energy (8.5 percent).
