State companies PT Pertamina (Persero) of Indonesia and Timor Gap of East Timor have signed a memorandum of understanding for development of joint business in the oil and gas sector in East Timor, Pertamina said in a statement issued Thursday in Jakarta.

Under the terms of the document signed in the Indonesian capital, cooperation between the two sides, which will be long term, will cover the whole of the oil and gas sector, namely processing and sale, as well as development of human resources.

“Pertamina is currently the market leader in East Timor, specifically in the wholesale and retail sale of fuel, of aviation fuel, liquid petroleum gas, and lubricants, therefore we are interested in boosting cooperation with Timor Gap, which will further boost Pertamina’s presence in East Timor, said the president of the Indonesian state company, Karen Agustiawan.
