Sao Tome and Principe has a population of 187,000 people, according to preliminary data from the 4th General Population and Housing Census, recently published in Sao Tome.
The census had the technical support of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics and the financial support of the United Nations Population Fund, from Japan and the African Development Bank (ADB).
Amongst the partners that sponsored the census were telecommunications company Companhia Santomense de Telecomunicações and the United Nations Children’’ Fund (UNICEF).
The Minister for Planning and Development, Agostinho Fernandes, thanked “all the partners and the population of Sao Tome and Principe for carrying out this big statistical operation,” which took 40 days. (macauhub)
