Italian petrochemical group ENI has found at least another 10 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the eastern region of Area 4 of the Mamba Nordeste 2 field, in the Rovuma Basin in northern Mozambique, the group said in a statement issued in Milan, Italy.
The new discovery means that ENI, which is the operator of the block, has found at least 70 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and all five of the last test wells drilled have yielded positive results.
This well was drilled at a depth of 1,994 metres below sea level and reached a depth of 5,365 metres. It is located 9 kilometres from Mamba Nordeste 1 and 23 kilometres from Mamba Sul 1, 60 kilometres of the coast of Cabo Delgado province.
ENI is the operator of Area 4 in which it has a stake of 70 percent, and the other partners are Portuguese group Galp Energia (10 percent), South Korea’s Kogas (10 percent) and Mozambican state oil and gas company, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) with the remaining 10 percent. (macauhub)
