Viana Industrial Hub in Angola to house over 100 projects

9 August 2012

The Viana industrial hub currently has over 100 industrial units operating in several business sectors, the hub’s director Teresa Pedro said Wednesday, noting its contribution to diversification of the economy and reducing imports.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, Teresa Pedro said that the hub was home to industries related to metal mechanics, trucking, packaging, paints, varnishes, construction materials, cosmetics, bread making, construction materials, sofas, mattresses, furniture, pipes, soap, and plastic products.

“Factories are becoming diversified, but most of them are construction materials units,” she said.

Pedro noted that the factories producing soft drinks cans, cosmetics, and capsules were fully operational.

“The products of these factories came from outside the country, but now they are being manufactured in units set up in the hub,” said Pedro.

Pedro also noted that the Viana Industrial Hub “initially covered an area of 6,000 hectares but, when it became part of the Special Economic Zone, the hub was reduced by half,” she said. (macauhub)
