Work to expand airport in Soyo, Angola, to be completed this month

17 August 2012

The renovation and expansion of Soyo airport in Angola’s Zaire province will be finished by the end of this month, enabling operations with medium-sized aircraft and capacity of a thousand passengers per day, airport director Alberto Lucamba announced.

Cited by Angolan news agency Angop, Lucamba said the work had been under way since November 2011 and also covered the main building of the flight terminal.

The airport is situated in the centre of the city of Soyo. Its runway is being extended 100 metres and will have a final length of 2,100 metres.

The work covers transit passenger support areas, shops, restaurants and logistical support zones as well as accesses to the airport.

The future airport will be a modern structure able to handle the current rise in air traffic, Lucamba said, adding that its facilities would improve the services provided to users. (macauhub)
