China to fund installation of wind energy in Guinea Bissau

31 August 2012

All the inhabited islands of Guinea Bissau will have wind-generated power as China plans to contribute US$150 million for this project, the Minister for Natural Resources and the Environment of the Guinean transitional government said Thursday in Bissau.

Cited by Portuguese news agency Lusa, Minister Daniel Gomes said that the funding contract had already been signed and Chinese technicians were now awaited to start installing the equipment on the Bijagós archipelago and the islands within the mainland, in Chão Manjaco, in the north of the country.

Using funding from telecommunications group ZTE Corporation equipment will also be installed to produce photovoltaic energy in the south of Guinea Bissau, said the Natural Resources and Environment Minister.

The minister did not specify if the Chinese funding of US$150 million was a donation or a loan. (macauhub)
