The number of visitors to Macau is this year expected to exceed the 28 million seen in 2011, but the rate of growth will not be more than a single figure, the director of Macau Tourism Services (DST), João Costa Antunes, said Monday.
In 2011, the number of visitors grew by 12.1 percent year on year, following a growth rate of 14.8 percent the previous year.
In the first seven months of the year that figure totalled 16 million, which was a year-on-year rise of 1.4 percent, with just 2.44 million visitors in July, which was a year-on-year decrease of 4.2 percent.
On the sidelines of the Global Tourism Economy Forum, Costa Antunes noted that more important than the number of visitors was how satisfied they were with their experience of Macau.
“We want the people who visit us to be happy so that they can promote Macau as a tourist destination,” noted the director of the Macau Tourism Services. (macauhub)
