Iron ore mining begins in Jamba, Angola

19 September 2012

Iron ore mining has begun in the Jamba municipality, 315 kilometres east of the city of Lubango in Angola’s Huíla province, despite being in an experimental phase given that prospecting work is still underway, said local administrator Miguel Kassela.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, the administrator said that Angola Exploration Mining Resources (AEMR), a partnership between the Singapore-based DT Group and Empresa Nacional de Ferro de Angola (Ferrangol) was carrying on with prospecting work and seeking higher quality ore.

Kassela added that in 2013 the new washery would be set up, and the old one was currently being dismantled and metal rubble removed.

“Extraction of iron ore has begun but what people want to see is the washery set up so that the ore can start being exported,” said Kassela. (macauhub)
