Portuguese power company Energias de Portugal takes suppliers to China and Brazil

21 September 2012

Portuguese power company EDP – Energias de Portugal plans to give two presentations in the cities of Beijing and Sao Paulo to allow its Portuguese suppliers to expand their businesses, the group’s chief executive said in Lisbon.

During the presentation of the Excellence Prize for best supplier, won by cable company Solidal, António Mexia said that the presentations in China and Brazil were part of a strategy to create international opportunities for EDP’s national suppliers by promoting conferences and establishing links with suppliers in target markets.

Mexia said that between 2008 and the first quarter of this year 204 national companies that supply EDP had put themselves up for internationalisation projects involving the Portuguese power company, which accounted for a total of 728 million euros of business.

This year, the China Three Gorges Corp acquired a 21.35 percent controlling stake in EDP as part of the Portuguese group’s privatisation agreed with the three-way mission supervising Portugal’s financial bailout package. (macauhub)
