Agricultural production and food safety in Mozambique are expected to receive support from an initiative of the United States and the G-8, which already has funding of US$500 million, US ambassador Douglas Griffiths said in the city of Xai-Xai.

Cited by daily newspaper Notícias the US ambassador also said that the initiative was intended to set up conditions for Mozambique to have a healthier population, with good education and enough food.

“The G-8 project is new and will be signed this month in the United States and is also expected to involve the private sector,” said the US diplomat.

Ambassador Douglas Griffiths went to Gaza province on a working trip and, amongst other things, visited a village where a group of women had benefitted from US funding of US$20,000 to buy and install a small rice processing unit. (macauhub)
