A new large diamond mine may be found soon in Angola’s Lunda Norte province, senior De Beers geologist, Alberto Passer said in Luanda Sunday.
Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop during the 3rd Angola International Mining Fair (FIMA), Passer said that De Beers had been prospecting a diamond mine for seven years and that the results were positive given the geology of the region.
“We are at a stage of prospecting and we believe that, taking into account the potential of Lunda Norte, sooner or later we will be successful,” he said.
According to the geologist, De Beers already operates a mine in Botswana, and in South Africa and now hopes to have the same opportunity in Angola.
FIMA, which closed Sunday, was attended by 70 Angolan and foreign companies. (macauhub)
