Mozambican state company finds signs of natural gas in the south of the country

25 October 2012

Mozambican state oil and gas company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) has found traces of natural gas in two locations in Maputo and Inhambane provinces, both in the south of the country, a state source told Macauhub.

The source also said that the two discoveries had been made at the Palmeiras administrative post, in Manhiça district, in Maputo province and on lake Nhangela in the Inharrime district of Inhambane province.

The source also said that negotiations were underway with companies, which were not named, interested in being granted concessions for prospecting and exploration of gas, heavy sands and oil in those two areas of southern Mozambique.

Sasol, a South African petrochemical group, is currently extracting natural gas in Temane and Pande, in Inhambane province, whilst prospecting in other regions of Mozambique. (macauhub)
