The Netherlands have donated 23 million euros to Mozambique in order to expand the drinking water distribution system, Mozambican newspaper O País reported.

The funding agreements were signed in Maputo by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and the institutions that manage the country’s water resources, the National Water Directorate, which will make use of 18 million of the total 23 million euros, and the Zambezi National Water Administration (Administração Nacional de Águas do Zambeze), with the remaining 5 million euros.

The Ministry for Public Works and Housing, Cadmiel Muthemba, said that the Dutch donation would be used to apply a strategic and integrated approach to manage, develop and protect water resources and the environment, as well as to cooperation in the areas of shared water resources, pollution control and management of floods and droughts.
