The governor of Angola’s Zaire province announced that within a month the location of the new airport in M´banza Kongo, the capital of Zaire, will be announced, according to Angolan news agency Angop.
José Joanes André said that of the six options put forward by technicians the areas of Lombo (Niemo), 17 kilometres north of the city of M’banza-Kongo, and of Nkiende dois, which is around 32 kilometres southeast of the city, in the direction of Luanda, are the ones offering the best conditions.
Governor Joanes André met with technicians from airport management and safety company ENANA, designers and other local officials to study construction of the new airport, which will be able to receive medium-sized and large aircraft.
According to the governor, the current M’banza Kongo airport, which is 1,950 metres long and 30 metres wide is not safe for air traffic, as well as being located in the middle of the city. (macauhub)
