The Angolan population is expected to total 21 million people in 2013, according to estimates from the National Statistics Institute (INE), the director of the institute, Camilo Ceita said Thursday in Luanda.

Speaking to Angolan news agency, Angop, Ceita said that INE’s projections pointed to the Angolan population this year totalling 20 million, a figure which will increase to 21 million in 2013.

Ceita also said that the institute had already launched the first phase of the Population and Housing Census, to be carried out in 2013, which involves cartographic updating and distribution of over 1,000 agents across the country to count houses, and to record the geographical outline of neighbourhoods and villages.

“This first phase will take around 9 months and has already been concluded in some provinces, such as Kwanza Norte and Bengo, and is about to be finished in Huambo, Cabinda and Zaire,” said the INE director. (macauhub)
