Italian group GVM is considering building an elevator factory in Mozambique, said Jorge Leitão, a representative of the group in Portugal, cited by Mozambican newspaper Correio da Manhã.
Leitão said that an economic feasibility study was underway and added that contacts were being made to identify Mozambican metal mechanics companies to manufacture the equipment needed to install the elevators in the country.
Some of the materials needed to build the elevators will be imported from Italy, Leitão said, adding that the group’s working plan includes training Mozambican staff.
In an average year the group manufactures around 750,000 elevators at its factories in China, Germany, Portugal, Poland, and India. The factory in Mozambique is expected to produce 50 elevators per year initially, which may double if the real estate sector shows demand.
Correio da Manhã reported that Portuguese company Liftech recently announced it was interested in building an elevator factory at the Matola Industrial Park, in Maputo province. (macauhub)
