Angolan textile factory Textang II due to re-launch production in 2013

23 November 2012

The Textang II textile factory, in the municipality of Cazenga, in Luanda, is due to re-launch its activities at the end of 2013, Angola’s Minister for Industry, Bernarda da Silva said Thursday.

Speaking about National Industry Day, which is celebrated Friday, the minister said that recovery of the factory would cost an estimated 20 billion kwanzas (US$208 million) and is the responsibility of Japanese technicians, assisted by Angolans.

She noted that the first tests at the textile factory were due to begin in December and that the maintenance area would be the first to be tested.

Refurbishment of Textang II, which has been at a standstill for over 20 years, is part of the Angolan government’s programme to diversify the country’s economy and re-launch manufacturing industry.

The diversification programme for the economy, in the textile sector, also includes recovery of the Refurbishment of the África Têxtil 1º de Maio (Benguela) and Satec (Kwanza Norte) factories. (macauhub)
