Spanish company Navantia to refurbish patrol ship gifted to Mozambique

27 November 2012

Spanish ship building company Navantia will modernise a patrol ship gifted to Mozambique last April by the Spanish navy in order to prepare it to combat piracy, the company said in a statement issued last week.

Alongside “Ingeniería de Sistemas para la Defensa de España” (Isdefe), a Spanish Ministry of Defence company, Navantia was awarded the contract to modernise the ship, which will become part of the Mozambican fleet with the name, “Pebane”.

Isdefe will train the Mozambican crew of the patrol ship on Spanish navy ships.

The contract outlines over 50,000 hours of work for Navantia and associated companies, and the ship is due to be delivered to the Mozambican authorities within five months. (macauhub)
