Angola’s post offices to offer financial services in 2013

28 November 2012

Angola’s post offices, as of the second half of 2013 and across the country, will have postal banks as a way of including financial services in the postal service’s working strategy, the company’s chairwoman said Tuesday.

Maria Luísa Alves Andrade told Angolan news agency Angop that the plan would include all 18 of Angola’s provinces, and the board planned to install a financial services desk at each of its post offices.

In order to move ahead Correios de Angola Tuesday started training 35 staff Tuesday, who were taken on to provide this new service.

“This is the start of a postal management course that is expected to take nine months in order for us to re-launch postal financial services in Angola,” she said.

According to Maria Andrade, in rural areas there is a severe lack of banking services and as Correios de Angola is a public service provider, which has been authorised by the National Bank of Angola, it was considered convenient for the company to offer financial services at its post offices.
