Angolan government wants to establish its own brand for diamonds

7 December 2012

Angolan diamond sales company Empresa de Comercialização de Diamantes (Sodiam) is working to create a brand for Angolan diamonds, “which communicates the fact that they have been processed in the country,” the company’s managing director, Santo António Soares da Silva, in Luanda cited by Rumo magazine.

Soares da Silva said that the focus of the idea was to “create something that identifies us and gives us prestige, so that we can be proud of diamonds cut in Angola.”

The government’s strategy for Sodiam, which is a subsidiary of Empresa Nacional de Diamantes de Angola (Endiama), includes development of a jewellery business in order to add value to the diamonds produced and to diversify the country’s economy. (macauhub)
