Main runway at Maputo airport in Mozambique to be rebuilt in 2014

28 December 2012

Work is due to begin to rebuild the main runway, the apron, and other facilities including all of the lighting systems at Maputo International Airport in 2014, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

The news was announced by Manuel Veterano, the chairman of the board of airport management company Aeroportos de Moçambique (ADM), after signing a contract to draw up a plan to refurbish the airport awarded to Mozambican consulting company DHV.

The French Development Agency provided ADM in December of last year with US$1.6 million to establish the cost of refurbishing the airport facilities.

The refurbishment work follows work carried out on the international and domestic terminals at Maputo International Airport, which was inaugurated in October.
