Work to build a real estate project including hotels and restaurants next to Maputo International Airport is due to begin this year as part of a project of state airport management company Aeroportos de Moçambique, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.
Manuel Veterano, chairman of Aeroportos de Moçambique, said that the architectural design of the project had been prepared and that the engineering project would now be drawn up so that work can begin in the next few months.
The real estate complex will be built in the Mavalane airport area Veterano said, declining to comment on the cost of the project or the state company’s partners.
The chairman of Aeroportos de Moçambique noted that in the long term Maputo International Airport would offer almost all the services offered by similar airports across the globe, where transit passengers do not have to leave the airport for their accommodation needs.
Veterano was speaking after announcing the company chosen to draw up the project to repair the main runway, the airport apron, airport equipment and all illuminated signs at the airport.
The project, which was awarded to consulting company DHV, is expected to be finished in time for work to begin in 2014. (macauhub)
