Angolan ambassador praises relationship with China

14 January 2013

The Angolan ambassador in Beijing, João Garcia Bires, praised two-way cooperation between China and Angola over the last eight years, noting that it had allowed Angola to transform itself into a modern country.

The diplomat, who was speaking at the official reception of the Angola embassy to mark 30 years of Chinese-Angolan cooperation on 12 January, said that the Angolan people and government were grateful to China for providing Angola with its first loan of around US$2 billion some eight years ago.

The Angolan diplomat said that the funding had been used for a vast reconstruction programme to overcome the effects of the civil war that devastated Angola.

“Other loans were provided by the ExIm Bank and later by the Development Bank of China and by the China International Fund and the results are plain to see,” the ambassador noted. (macauhub)
