Brazil is second-largest exporter of iron ore to China in 2012

In 2012 Brazil was the second-largest exporter of iron ore to China, which imported a record 743.6 million tons or 8.4 percent more year on year, according to figures from China’s Customs Service cited by financial news agency Reuters.

Australia was the biggest exporter of iron ore to China with sales of 351.5 million tons, or 47 percent of total Chinese imports of the product. This amount represented growth of 418.5 percent against 2011.

In third and fourth places were South Africa and India with respective sales of 40.6 million tons, or 12 percent more against 2011 and 33 million tons, or 64.74 percent less year on year.

India’s share of the Chinese iron ore market has been falling for several years, from 23 percent of the total in 2006 to just 4.4 percent last year. (macauhub)
