Construction of a thermal power plant in Dundo, in Lunda Norte province, with a view to improving the electricity supply to the provincial capital, is currently underway, the Angolan Minister for Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges said Monday in Luanda.
During the discussion of the State Budget for 2013 the minister said that the Dundo power plant was designed to generate 30 megawatts of electricity.
Mentioning additional plans for the province, Baptista Borges noted the refurbishment and modernisation of the Luachimo hydroelectric plant, which will have its capacity increased from 30 to 36 megawatts.
The minister also gave assurances that the first phase of the Energy Security Plan was due to be concluded in the third quarter of the year and said that the plan, which is underway, will improve production, transmission and distribution of electricity in the country. (macauhub)
