The process of reprivatising Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo should be completed in February, said Portuguese Defence Minister José Pedro Aguiar Branco, as reported by the Portuguese press.
The European Commission has also asked the Portuguese government to provide information about a capital injection in that shipyard during the governments of former prime minister José Sócrates, he said.
In November 2012 companies from Brazil, Norway and Russia submitted binding proposals to purchase that shipyard located in northern Portugal.
The bids were submitted by Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro-based Rionave Serviços Navais, Norway’s Volstad Maritime, founded in 1952 and specialised in building ships to support oil sector maritime activities, and Russia’s JSC River Sea Industrial Trading group. (macauhub)
