Just three of the 37 industrial and services companies operating in the Beluluane Industrial Park are Mozambican, said the management company of the duty free area, cited by Mozambican daily newspaper Correio da Manhã.
Despite its location near the port of Maputo and the competitive Maputo Development Corridor, the industrial area is used by more foreign companies, according to Nelson Ventura, chairman of Beluzone, the company that manages the park.
The area was first set up in 2000, with just seven companies initially, most fo which provided services to the Mozal aluminium foundry, according to Ventura, who noted that requests from foreign companies interested in operating in the park made it an “economic development hub for Mozambique”.
Although initial investments at the park were focused on Mozal, as time went by the number of independent enterprises at the park had grown, Ventura said.
Beluzone, which manages the Beluluane Industrial Park, is owned both by private investors and the Mozambican State and employs around 1,500 people. (macauhub)
