Italian group ENI (Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi) has found more natural gas in the Rovuma basin, in northern Mozambique, totalling at least 4 trillion cubic feet of gas and increasing total reserves discovered so far to 75 trillion cubic feet, the group said in a statement issued Monday in Milan.

According to the statement, the Coral 3 well, which is 65 kilometres f the coast of Cabo Delgado province is the eighth to be drilled in Area 4, found 117 metres of high quality gas.

The Italian group also said that it would drill another test well to better assess the potential of these discoveries before returning to the area south of Area 4 to drill new test wells.

ENI is the operator of the block in which it has a stake of 70 percent, and the other partners are Portuguese group Galp Energia (10 percent), South Korea’s Kogas (10 percent) and Mozambican state oil and gas company, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) with the remaining 10 percent.
