Number of visitors to Macau falls in January to 2.3 million

Macau received 2.3 million visitors in January, which was a drop of 6.1 percent against the same month of 2012, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said.

Of the visitors that arrived in the first month of the year, 1.47 million were from mainland China, which was a decrease of 1.4 percent year-on-year.

The number of visitors from Hong Kong (509,800), from Taiwan (76,800) and from Japan (26,900) decreased year-on-year by 20.1 percent, 10.2 percent and 15.0 percent, respectively, but from those from South Korea (52,600) and Thailand (21,800) rose by 14.1 percent and 81.0 percent, respectively.
