Fogo Coffee Spirit last week sold 180 kilos of coffee to the Netherlands, which is not enough to meet demand from the European country, said a representative of the company cited by the Cape Verdean press.
José Silva said that the process that ended in the export of the 180 kilos of coffee had been complicated and long but added that officials and workers from the company were satisfied as this was the first time that a significant amount of coffee had been exported.
The shareholders of Fogo Coffee Spirit – a company set up in 2011 – invested around 18 million Cape Verdean escudos (US$210,000) on acquiring equipment for the new coffee roasting factory in Mosteiros, on Fogo Island.
Set up at the end of 2011, Fogo Coffee Spirit’s majority shareholder is Dutch company Trabocca with a 51 percent stake, its other shareholders are Casa Rodrigo which holds 44 percent and the Mosteiros association of coffee producers with 5 percent. (macauhub)
