A shipment of 15,000 tons of maize produced on a priperty in Uruguay purchase din the 1980s by Cape Verdean state company Empresa Pública de Abastecimento de Cabo Verde is due to arrive in the archipelago in the second quarter of this year, Radio Cabo Verde reported Thursday.
The Minister for Rural Development Eva Ortet told the radio station that maize production in other countries encouraged the government to promote partnerships with other States to ensure the country’s self-sufficiency in grain production.
Similar partnerships are thus planned with Mozambique, Guinea Conakry, along with an existing one with Angola, where Cape Verde has 7,500 hectares for agro-livestock production.
In relation to the land in Angola, located in the Quibala municipality of Kwanza Sul, Ortet said that the process was underway, and that a state company had been set up to manage it. (macauhub)
