US group Viceroy Hotels & Resorts plans to open a hotel in Cape Verde in 2017, the Viceroy Cape Verde on the island of Santiago where the capital of the archipelago, Praia, is located, the group said in a statement issued Tuesday in Los Angeles.
The future hotel, which will be in the Sambala community, an urban development area a few minutes form Praia, will have 130 rooms, three restaurants, a kids’ club and the usual customer support facilities.
In the statement, Bill Walshe, the group’s chief executive, said he was excited about expanding the business into Cape Verde and about helping to develop the Sambala community and added that Santiago island offered many activities ranging from diving, world class fishing and water sports as well as bird watching and paragliding.
The islands’ mountains, its green valleys, a white sand coast as well as volcanic beaches on a turquoise sea are some of the beauties of Santiago that the Viceroy CEO pointed out, as well as the fact that Cape Verde is Europe’s closest “tropical archipelago”.
The Viceroy Hotels & Resorts group’s business is focused on the United States although it is also present in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, the Maldives and soon in Turkey. (macauhub)
