31 May 2013

Unitel STP, a subsidiary of Angolan mobile phone operator Unitel, is due to start operating this year, Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos said Wednesday in Sao Tome according to the local press.

Unitel International Holding, which is owned by Isabel dos Santos, was granted the second license to operate a mobile phone network on the archipelago on 8 March 2013 after its proposal met all technical and financial requirements demanded by the Sao Tome and Principe Regulatory Authority.

Isabel dos Santos said that her company planned to build a technical training school, which will be a support centre for Unitel STP, with a view to training engineers, managers and other technicians with a view to driving employment in the country.

The businesswoman said that the price of the Unitel STP license was set at US$8 million, which would soon be paid out.

On a five-hour visit to Sao Tome, Isabel dos Santos also talked about other investments she had in the pipeline, “particularly in the area of training for young people in technology and management.” (macauhub)
