The African Development Bank (ADB) had granted additional funding of US$33.2 million to repair the Massingir dam, in Mozambique’s Gaza province, said the bank’s representative in Mozambique, César Tique.
Cited by daily newspaper Notícias, Tique said that along with this additional loan, there was a total of US$60 million available to repair the dam, which was badly damaged by heavy rains.
Repairing the dam will increase power production capacity an, as the dam is located in the Limpopo National Park, will also benefit resident communities.
The initial valuation pointed to US$13 million to repair the damage done.
The agreement for the second loan was signed last week in Marrakesh, Morocco, by a vice president of the ADB, Aly Abou-Sabaa, and Mozambique’s Development Minister, Aiuba Cuereneia. (macauhub)
